Movie Review: Ender’s Game

International-Enders-Game-Poster-637x890I spent over half an hour in traffic with this on the back of a bus looking right at me

When this movie was announced I knew absolutely nothing, I just saw a promotional picture with Harrison Ford in it as a drill instructor and moved on, then it’s release got closer and I heard about the boycotts before anything else, people hating on this movie and call for a complete boycott due to the beliefs of the source books writer Orson Scott Card. Then a trailer came and I said meh, another trailer came and being a sci fi guy I checked it out and it was still ok but didn’t light my world on fire, the reviews tore it apart, it seemed mediocre and did average at the box office. Since I love an adventure in space I bought all the Ender books in a four pack, I still can’t explain why but some of my best decisions are made this way (in a similar vain I can’t explain why I bought TES 3: Morrowind, Final Fantasy 7 or Ocarina of Time) the book on which this movie is based is widely called one of the greatest sci-fi books of all time, and it turned out this purchase is one of the best I’ve made. Book Review: The Graveyard Book By Neil Gaiman

20131015-094350.jpg

I was turned on to the Sandman comic series by a friend. His recommendation was “this Neil Gaiman writes gods better then anyone you’ll find” and so I read the first volume Preludes and Nocturnes and was hooked, I was very quickly buying the rest of the series and the Death spinoffs too. Then I delved into his novels and it’s an amazing world of stories.

Today, I’m talking about The Graveyard Book, a 312 page children’s fantasy novel (a children’s book in the same way Dr Who is supposed to be a children’s show) that begins with the murder of a family, all except the baby, who is guided by something mysterious to flee and it then crawls out of the house and away to the safety of a graveyard where it’s met by ghosts. The ghosts decide to adopt the little one and raise him together as a group to hide him from those who wish him harm and he is then christened Nobody Owens or Bod for short. Continue reading

WWE Monday Night Raw 8/10

20131008-123321.jpg

It’s Raw time, now at the later time of 11am for me, much better! After the shitty ending to last nights PPV I’m really looking forward to the long talking segment that will no doubt open Raw.

And here we go, Stephanie buries Show for his actions last night, and for once he isn’t crying, he’s happy that he ruined their plans. He brags and she goes nuts on him with slaps and he’s FIRED! He celebrates as Steph just stands there furious. Not as long as expected but come on, enough.

TV Review: Mortal Kombat Legacy II Part 1

mortal-kombat-legacy-season-2-coming-in-mid-2013

So…recently we had the release of what I thought to be episode 1 of Mortal Kombat Legacy II, after I watched that episode I was ready to send it to my MK loving friend when he messaged me first alerting me that the entire season of Legacy II was online, GREAT! I thought, I’m in love with the concept of binge watching.

I love Mortal Kombat, it and Smash Brothers are the only fighting games I play. They’re great for beginners and experts, and MK has a great B movie storyline. I even love the movie as a not so guilty pleasure. In 2010 MK was quite dormant, there had been no game since the dismal Armageddon in 2006 and the third movie was dead in the water, so when I randomly found the MK Rebirth short around E3 I was blown away, a gritty take on the franchise was lots of fun, the new interpretations of the characters were well done and I want MORE MORE MORE and when Legacy followed the next year it too was a nice easy watch.

WWE Monday Night Raw 16/9

20130917-103246.jpg

Time for MONDAY NIGHT RAW, or in Australia 10am on a Tuesday morning.

Last night Daniel Bryan won the WWE title at Night of Champions and I was over the moon, so as expected the show opens with Bryan celebrating YES YES! But then due to the refs fast count HHH strips him of the belt but he isn’t going to hand it to Orton, the plans will be revealed later.
And of course Bryan gets an RKO to end the segment, backstage Orton whines that he wasn’t handed the belt and of course HHH buries him for losing.
FUCK THESE PEOPLE.
